擁有 Xperia Play 的用家聽到這個消息先別哭，對，就是沒有官方 ICS 4.0 的升級。
昨日 Sony 在官方博客上正式公佈這個消息，為了提供一個一貫穩定的使用感覺，尤其在遊戲的體驗上（暗指內置的 Play Station Pocket ?），無法在 ICS 上取得好表現，所以索性不給予官方 ICS 4.0 的更新。
博客上更談及這是經部分用家、工程師 、 甚至遊戲廠商在其 ICS 測試版上得出的結果。由此可見，很大程度問題出於 4.0 上 Play 獨有的 Play Station Pocket 無法有一個好表現，否則應該可與同期的 Xperia neo, arc 等一起更新。
與此同時，博客上公佈外國的 Xperia arc, neo, mini, mini pro, pro, active 及 Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman 將會開始收到ICS 4.0.4 的更新，而一眾已更新 4.0.3 版本的手機 (Xperia arc S, neo V) 亦會下星期更新到 4.0.4；而 Xperia S 則計畫在六月底升級，Xperia P 緊隨其後，最後到 Xperia U 在第三季底更新。
在原生 2.3 的舊機器上，有很多都因硬件上的控制，無法升級 4.0。想不到連 Sony Ericsson 都會跳票。可幸的是，只有 Play 一部是在原先升級計畫下被剔出。

In regards to Xperia PLAY, after extensive in house testing with our developer teams and working with our partners, we have concluded that a consistent and stable experience, particularly with gaming, cannot be guaranteed for this smartphone on Ice Cream Sandwich – therefore, we will not make the Android 4.0 upgrade available for Xperia PLAY.
